Strep throat is a bacterial infection that affects the throat and the tonsils caused by group A Streptococcus bacteria. It is a common type of sore throat that can occur in people of all ages, but it is most common in children and teenagers.
Strep throat is highly contagious and can be spread through contact with an infected person’s saliva or nasal secretions. The bacteria can also be spread through touching objects or surfaces that have been contaminated with the bacteria.
